#PinkShirtDay

Did you know today is #PinkShirtDay?

Pink Shirt Day started back in 2007 when a young boy was bullied for coming to school in a pink shirt. That day started a nationwide movement where every year on February 24th, people across Canada join together to take a stand against bullying.

Three out of four Canadians have admitted that they have been bullied throughout there life. That ratio stands that probably you or someone you love has been bullied. It’s time to take a stand against this. Wear your pink shirt proudly today to show that you won’t take bullying lightly.

Check out www.pinkshirtday.ca for more information, and to find out how to donate. Net proceeds from official Pink Shirt Day t-shirts, buttons, and pins are donated directly to programs supporting children’s healthy self-esteem. These programs teach children empathy, compassion and kindness towards both others and themselves

Are you wearing pink today? Tweet or post a picture to Instagram using the hashtag #PinkShirtPromise

Happy National Margarita Day!

MargaritaHappy Monday! Although Mondays are definitely not  my favorite day of the week, this Monday is a little different. Why? It’s National Margarita Day! While there’s no real reason or rhyme behind National Margarita Day, who’s going to complain about a day that celebrates such a deliciously tropical tequila beverage?

Here’s a simple but sumptuous recipe for a perfect-every-time Margarita. If you want to jazz it up, try adding a little fruit juice or cucumber slices! The sky is your limit! Comment below or tweet me at @Shes_Influential and let me know how you’re celebrating!

Ingredients

½ Cup Lemon Juice

½ Cup Lime Juice

1 Cup Tequila

1 Cup Triple Sec or Grand Marnier

4 cup ice cubes

2 Tbsp Honey

2 Whole Limes, 1 Sliced into Rounds

Instructions

Place all the ingredients including just one of the limes into a blender and blend until ice is crushed and drink is smooth.

Pour into 4 margarita glasses and garnish with a lime round

Enjoy!

The New Lighting Collection from Canvas

The Canvas Collection from Canadian Tire has provided some great design inspiration this last year. From basics for your living room and kitchen, to beautiful holiday decorations. This spring it’s all about bringing light into your space with the all new lighting collection from lead product developer and style & design expert Tracy Platt.

canvas-light-it-up-canadian-tire

The team at Canadian tire has done an amazing job this season of creating classic, modern lamps for every room. Clean lines, simple colors, and shapes that catch the eye – these lights are anything but boring.

Here are some of my favourite designs from this season’s collection. And a few of my favourite design tips from Tracy Platt.

I think Tracy is right on with her style tips for this season. By not settling for just one lamp style you create interest wherever the eye is drawn, plus for more open spaces it can help create a sense that you’re stepping into a different space just by setting with different lighting.

Change up your lighting to help freshen up your space and to brighten up a room. With the new collection from Canvas I’m sure you’ll find something to compliment your space, whatever your style.

Have a favourite piece? Share it with me in the comments. And check out CanadianTire.ca for more design inspiration and to see the whole Canvas lighting collection.

The Cantina by Campbell’s in Toronto

the-cantina-campbell-soup-toronto

Looking for a new restaurant to try? Why not check the latest pop-up restaurant in Toronto, The Cantina, starting February 2. Chef Matt Dean Pettit (from Rock Lobster) will be cooking up some all-new soup recipes using Campbell’s soups and broths. And once served up visitors can add their own flare by topping their soup with a selection of fresh garnishes.

Matt’s goal with these recipes? Delicious recipes that can be recreated in your own home. And with such diverse cultures in Toronto, there are plenty of flavours to mix and match to create something unique.

While you’re at The Cantina, don’t forget to add your sticker to the pop art mosaic wall. Campbell’s Canada will make a donation for every sticker placed, to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

The restaurant is at 501 Queen Street West and will be serving lunch and dinner Monday to Friday 11am to 8pm and Saturday & Sunday 11am to 7pm. It’s only around until February 21, so make sure to check it out!

Which Countries Have the Most Work to do? #COP21

Which Countries Have the Most Work to do? #COP21

The average global temperature has been slowly rising in the last few decades. And the main culprit is carbon emissions. Often times we don’t think much about it, if we have to go to the store, we hop in our car, we make purchases from factories that emit carbon. And while making purchases keeps the economy moving, perhaps we need to be making smarter decisions about how much of a carbon footprint we’re leaving.

Last month, a global conference was held in Paris to tackle just this question, on a larger scale – what can countries do? The Paris Agreement noted that we needed to keep the average global temperature from rising more than 2°, because while that doesn’t seem like a lot, it can mean all the difference for icecaps, crops, and water sources.

To do so the Paris Agreement asks that each country implement its own climate action plan by 2018. Each country faces it’s own challenges when it comes to carbon emissions, and some will have more work to do than others.

Africa, South-East Asia and Latin America have some of the lowest emissions per capita, while North America, Australia and parts of the Middle East have some of the highest. China actually consumes the highest fossil fuels, due to their large population.

If you have any recommendations on how you and your family can help reduce carbon emissions for 2016, share it with us.

Wrapping Presents #CTChristmas

With only 3 days left until Christmas it’s time to start wrapping those presents and getting them under the tree.

If wrapping presents is your least favourite part of the whole gift giving process, we’ve got some tips to help you out.

  • Make your own wrapping paper with brown or white craft paper and use stamps or cookie cutters to make designs.
  • Put everything in a box. Nothing is more awkward to wrap than something not square/rectangular.
  • Buy wrapping paper with lines on the back. They make it so much easier to cut.
  • If your wrapping paper doesn’t have lines, use a meter stick or a square ruler.
  • Pre-cut all your pieces of tape.
  • Wrap on hard surfaces, not on the carpet.

And of course, turn on the Christmas lights, make yourself some eggnog and crank that holiday music.

Have more wrapping tips? Share them with us in the comments!

Breaking News! Loblaws is selling beer!

Starting yesterday, grocery shopping will be a one stop ordeal! This week, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced that on December 15th, six-packs of beer will be sold in Ontario grocery stores. Big-name brand Loblaws is one of the first 13 retailers that rolled out the inventory, with another 60 to follow in the following weeks.

Spotted on the shelves of the Leslieville Loblaws: beer.

There are 25 stores across the Greater Toronto Area, and 16 in South Western Ontario that will be licensed to sell beer. By May of 2016, over 150 stores will carry the beverage.

Four stores in the Ottawa area — College Square Market, the Real Canadian Superstore in south Kanata, Farm Boy in Orléans, and Brown’s Independent Grocer in Stittsville will carry Beer. In Toronto, the Loblaws at 50 Musgrave St., and 17 Leslie St both carry beer, as well as the Real Canadian Superstores on Weston Road and on Gerry Fitzgerald Dr.

Will you be buying beer from your grocery store?
